Alejandro’s first half of the 2026 Hondo World Tour stopped through Orlando, Florida at The Conduit along with special guest Jake Swamp & the Pine. Alejandro featured new music, including his new single “Glowing” (streaming here) along with his hits that propelled him into the spotlight as runner-up on American Idol.
When this show presented itself, I did as I do for each show coverage opportunity – I asked my wife for permission. As someone that votes nearly every episode, every season, I knew she would be jealous. When I mentioned her jealousy, the tour was gracious enough to offer a second ticket for her. Her experience as a long-time Hondo fan definitely made the night a memorable show, and our interactions with Alejandro and Jake Swamp (Drew) definitely earned me a few brownie points.
Jake Swamp & the Pine
Singer/vocalist Drew Zieff opened in support, playing the bands music as a solo act. With an acoustic guitar and a newly acquired Buc-ee’s hat, the Boston-area artist performed an hour set of storytelling lyrics sung with rich vocals. The heavy rotation of E major chord progressions and strumming cadence was reminiscent of an early-days Dashboard Confessional. The crooning and lyrics reminded me of my time with the Detroit-based trio of brothers, The Elsey Brothers. Together, this is a combination makes the folksy performance one that needs to return to the southeast more often.
Alejandro Aranda
Alejandro’s set was exactly what anyone familiar with Hondo hopes for – guitar picking riffs interplayed with musical textures that can only be described as uniquely Alejandro. His set stuck to his jazz-like strumming of an acoustic guitar over some of his more electric-heavy sets he plays as his Scary Pool Party persona. The lengthy, seemingly impromptu riffing kept the audience on its toes, hearing familiar songs in a new way.
